How to Start a Blog for Profit

An online presence is important these days for whatever enterprise you engage in. to connect with a wide variety of people there is no bigger forum than the Internet. If you are looking for a way to show off your expertise and also make a little money while doing it, consider starting a blog.

What is a Blog?

A blog is actually an online journal of sorts. With a blog you can upload daily posts about anything that you want. Some people create personal blogs as a way to keep in touch with family members. Blogs can be used to build revenue. Start with your chosen niche and market your blog to find the traffic you need. Then, utilize these ideas to turn a profit.

Traffic! Traffic! Traffic!

Getting people to your site is the key, right? Once there, your product is great, so if they are truly interested, a sale is no problem! But getting them there is a problem! Take a minute and type in something like "jewelry" to the search box. What happens? Pages and pages and pages (and thena few more) of sites related to Jewelry are listed. Where is yours? Lost somewhere in that crowd? What are the chances someone is going to choose to click on yours? It's a tough system out there!

One of the best ways to get people to your site is through traffic building and exchange systems. These are typically free, but some do cost! One of the best that i have found is Traffic Swarm- Not only is it free, you can refer traffic to more than one link or URL. You have a lot of options as far as earning the credits it "costs" to post your site, too. You can browse other sites (and there are tons of great sites associated with this program, not just business and marketing sites- there are blogs, family sites, children, health, and so much more. 2. Article Marketing – the niche you’ve chosen for your blog is one that interests you. If it is interesting you will spend more time doing it. Create content not only for your blog but also to be submitted to article directories. Use the resource box to advertise your blog so people can find you.

3. Social Networking – these sites are everywhere. Join Facebook, MySpace, Squidoo, Twitter or a dozen others and make connections. You can join groups of likeminded people who are also bloggers or entrepreneurs.

4. Viral Marketing – this is where you spread the word about your blog. Talk to friends, family and even strangers. Give out business cards that have your blog address on them.

5. Use RSS Feeds – RSS stands for “Really Simple Syndication.” Readers can subscribe to your feed and get email updates when new content is posted. It is an easy way for them to keep up with your blog without spending all day online.

6. Submit Blog to Search Engines – doing this allows your blog to be ranked. Google and Yahoo! are two of the most popular search engines you want to crawl your blog pages. It doesn’t guarantee top ranking, though. You’ll have to do a little more work for that.

7. Joining Forums – as a blogger you are a budding entrepreneur. Right now you are marketing yourself to find traffic and then profit. Become a member of business forums, work at home forums and others to meet new people and share ideas. You can add a link to your blog in the signature line so others can find you.

8. Visit other blogs – show your appreciation to those who visit you by also posting comments on their blogs. It is a kindness that shows others you are not just out to advertise your blog alone. Add links to your blog in your comments.

9. SEO Marketing – whatever you write, use relevant keywords. Keyword density between three and ten percent is good for getting higher page rankings in search engines. Base your keywords on a research you do to find the most popular words used in search engines for your niche.

10. Social Bookmarking – submitting posts to social bookmarking sites allows others who are members of those sites to track you back to your blog.

Keywords and Your Blog- How does this work?

In people's search for higher incomes from placement of Google AdSense ads on their blogs a lot of AdSense publishers are looking to find those keywords that really bring the best income possible. The higher an advertiser pays for a keyword, they more the advertiser receives when they click on a link.

But how can you find such words for your blog? Well, the answer to that question depends a little on who you are and what you're prepared to do to get those keywords. But the general good news is that you can indeed find such words if you need them.

Of course, if you can afford such a solution, one of the best ways of getting your hands on those words would be to pay for them. There are specialized companies that do business by finding people good keywords, not only for the purpose of more AdSense revenue but for search engine optimization as well.

Such a service can be found on "Top Paying Keywords" http://www.toppayingkeywords.com/?hop=moneymkr and this is a no-brainer to getting relevant content on your site and increasing your revenue by a whole bunch quickly.

The results on the left will probably be your competitors (and if they have Google AdSense ads on their page you can bet then are) while the links on the right display ads relevant to your search.

If your search doesn't yield any AdSense results then you might want to reconsider including those keywords in your site.

Make sure you don't use any dead words on your blog (words that don't get any links on AdSense other then public ads). That is probably the most important thing you should be doing when considering keywords to chase in your blooging for dollars campaign.

Of course these are only a few methods of getting out of the dead zone and starting to make serious money with AdSense. If you've seen a lot of people with "not so hot" websites generating a lot of AdSense revenue, using these tips can get you right behind them (or in front if you're really smart) very fast. Although this is the case it is also very important to remember that having the highest paying words does not mean that you make the most money. You have to also consider how many times the advert is clicked on.

Selling Online? Where? How?

Lately I have heard a lot of networkers say that they are not having much luck with their sales. I ask, "where are you selling at?" and they typically tell me one shop and a blog- well, that is probably not enough, unless you have a serious traffic service that is bringing you tons of customers every day- otherwise, you need to branch out, get your name known, so that the SEO's bring you up at the top when people enter searches for the type of items you have...

How to Get Your Website Visitors to Willingly Supply You with Plenty of Fresh Content

If you are like most people, you probably have more commitments than time. You make cuts to help compensate, typically setting aside the more time consuming tasks like writing fresh content for your business. Some people find it easier to hire a writer than try to schedule time to write but what if we told you, you could also get content for free?

Here are two easy ways to get your visitors to willing give you content at no cost.

1) Encourage Commenting on Your Blog

The first thing you need to realize is that it takes time so if you don’t have tons of comments right off the bat, don’t be discouraged…just keep at it. A blog that is up-to-date with fresh content will encourage more and more commenting.

Just like with any other marketing you do for your business, you need to first build a relationship with your blog readers. Blog readers need to feel like they “know” you and the more you post and the more real you come across to your readers the easier it will be for them to approach you and build that relationship.

Make your blog convenient for your readers by setting up an RSS feed and email notifications of new posts. You’re busy and so are your readers, so don’t waste their time by making them check everyday to see if you’ve posted something new.

Give your readers something to talk about and respond to by asking questions and voicing your opinions on hot topics. When given the invitation to communicate with you more will do so.

2) Encourage People to Post Product Reviews

One of the reasons Amazon.com does so well is because it allows its visitor to contribute their own opinions. People love to give their opinions and people also love to hear other people’s opinions about products.

You can do the same thing. Post simple product reviews for products that your target market is interested in and allow your visitors to add their own comments, full reviews and ratings. As more people leave reviews, the more likely your site will be the go-to place for product reviews in your particular subject area.

Tell your blog visitors, subscribers and visitors about the product review system. You can even offer a points and ratings system where reviews can earn rewards for the quality and frequency of their reviews.
Getting your visitors to willing give you content won’t just happen over night, you still have to work with and supply some initial content and points of discussion, but once it gets going participation starts to multiply.

New month, New Opportunities

Well, here it is September.... I have been very busy with the blogs this month! I hope you have learned and benefitted from some of the tips, links, and ideas we have shared here! I also hope you have had the chance to check out some of my other blogs-

Increasing your traffic! Make more Sales series- #5

One of the keys to building your customer base, getting your products seen, and really promoting your store, blog, or items is to get the traffic there. This is a lot harder than it seems. Originally, I thought, "heck, just put your url in some search engines and your set. The people will come running" Well, it does not work that way. There is a lot of competition out there. You not only want traffic, but you want the right kind of traffic- meaning you want people who are truly looking for your type of product to be able to find you.

You also want the occassional person who just stumbles across your site. These are the people who may not know they are interested in your item. How many times have you stumbled upon a site, then thought, "Wow! that is really cool"? You bookmark it, mention it to a friend or two, then go back to it again later. Well, traffic and rotator services provide you those unique customers who may not realize they are searching for your product, but will check it out.

When using the traffic services and rotators you will need to make sure you are very descriptive in your site or shop promotion. Most services offer viewers several sites to choose from each time they log in. Therefore, you have to put the best bait on your hook and gear it towards the right audience. For example, traffic swarm below, allows you to write a description, add a "catch line" which is posted in bold above the description, and choose up to 3 categories for the target audience. You can even become more selective by logging into your account (once signed up) and choosing male/female, age ranges, occupations, etc. for your target audience. If you have done some serious research you may want to narrow it down that precise, but if you are not sure, I would leave those open. You don't want to exclude potential customers.

The services I have listed here for you are all free. I use all of them. I am not overwhelmed with emails, I am not solicited on a regular basis, I choose the time and frequency I want to browse other sites and in return I earn credits. I can spend my credits on whichever of my sites I choose. I actually set my Traffic Swarm as my start page so I remember to browse a few sites every day when log on. You only have to browse for 20 seconds per site, but I find that I often spend much longer than that. Through Traffic swarm I have found several great blogs, great sites, fantastic shops, and informational/marketing tools that I use daily now. I was truly surprised at how many great links I have bookmarked through all of the services listed below. I think you will be, too.

So, choose one or all, sign up, and start increasing your traffic today. Then come back here, and share with us your feelings about these services.

URL rotator programs? Increase traffic? Free advertising? Tell me more....

URL Rotators? How doe they work?

URL rotator programs, similar to tweet spinner type programs, consistently rotate your URL's throughout other websites and blogs that are part of the program. You will receive random advertising on other sites that belong to the same program. Many of these programs claim high hits, increased traffic, etc. However, it is hard to determine those claims unless that is the only rotator or program you are using. Otherwise, unique visitors to your site, store or blog are difficult to track from origin. One program the tracks the statistics for you is at the link below:

This program, Biz Rotator, lets you add several URL's for free to rotate. However, the catch is that you refer others to sign up for the program. This is similar to Traffic Swarm, Traffic Digger and other website referral programs. But, what the heck? It's free, right? You won't receive tons of emails, solicitations, etc. Just simply add your url's, sign up (again, it's free), and the more you sign up the higher the frequency of your advertisements.

Get more Sales- Series 4

Linkbacks-

If you have been following the "get more sales" series, by this time you should have your store chosen, and have become a member of a few social network sites. If you have not done those tasks, refer back in the archive for great leads on these...

Now we need to focus on getting your store or selling venue found when a potential customer types in a search of products you may have...

It really is not as easy as just submitting your site to web site submission sites. That is a start, however. You also need to focus on linkbacks- the more linkbacks, the higher your site climbs in the ranking. So, how does a linkback work? What is a linkback? I will provide you with some resources, but explain it in "Mommy Terms"-

A linkback is a means or method in which other sites will link back to your site. You will submit your site, and that site will have your URL registered along with theirs (and other submissions). Generally sites allow a description or keywords to be attached to your URL. Make sure you choose these carefully. Many request a banner or avatar (which you should have now if you have been following the series, if you do not, scan the archives and find the post titled Banners or Free Banners)

The first places you will want to provide your linkbacks is your selling sites and your social networks you have joined. Check under banners, links to our stores, or another similarly worded tab at your selling venues. Made it Myself has this on their last page of the site. It is titled Member Stores. Grab the code for the MIM banner and place it on your selling site, your blog, your social network, etc. You will then submit to Made it Myself (per their instructions on the page), your banner and link and the link where their banner can be found. Simple as that. Check all of your selling venues for these opportunities.

As for the social networks, when you register, typically the network requests your website or selling venues as part of the application process. Enter the page of your site you want members to see (it does not have to be the first page of your website, you may want to direct people to a mid page where there is more of attention grabbing detail). Once a member of the network, there are a variety of places you can add your linkback. You should have already added your RSS, so that provides one link back. You can also join groups for banner exchanges, post your stores, etc. In those groups, members post their banners or avatars, other members pick them up and place them on their sites, in exchange you place their banner on yours. This can be for blogs, shops, and more. Join as many of these groups as you can, and link back as many sites as you can fit. This constantly raises your rank. The network may also have a place where members post a business directory, a member store page, etc. You can submit your information in these pages, also.

A good starting goal for the next two weeks would be to submit at least 20 linkbacks. If you have difficulty with this, check my site and see the linkbacks at the bottom of the following page http://www.mommytyme.org/contact.html if you would like to link back to this page, simply follow the submission guidelines provided higher on that page. Women in Business

One area you may be neglecting in your attempt to promote and sell your products is that of learning. Yes, learning. We can learn from others who have been there, done that, and tried this. So, one fantastic resource that you might want to take advantage of is: Women in Business This is a great social network site that has immense opportunities for the experienced, as well as, the newby!

There is tons of information on this network. As with all social networks you will have your own page to decorate as you like. The owner of this network, Tongya, is super flexible and nice. She allows you to promote how you want, what you want. She does like active participation at least one to two times per week. You can truly learn from some of the business owners on there. This week alone Women in Business hosted vendor parties, information about business taxes, work at home opportunities, prizes, contests, giveaways.
